The Hydro-Preneur Initiative (H.P.I), led by Teach for Nigeria fellows, is designed to improve school attendance and boost family income in underserved Nigerian communities, particularly in Ogun State. This Hydroponics, is simply a soil-free method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions in water, allows for food cultivation even in limited spaces, making it an accessible and cost-effective solution for these communities. Through H.P.I, we’ll teach both parents and students the practice of hydroponic farming, empowering them to grow nutritious food and establish a source of income. By providing a sustainable way to meet their daily survival needs. 5 out of 6 classes experience drastic reduction of about 40% in attendance of pupils especially on Thursdays and Fridays of every school week. Despite the intervention of the school authorities in sensitizing the parents about the benefits of regular school attendance for their children, little to no changes have been recorded.
